Revelation 16:18 meaning and explanation

And there were flashes of lightning, and rumblings, and peals of thunder, and a great earthquake the likes of which had not occurred since men were upon the earth—so mighty was the great quake.

Revelation 16:18, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The seventh bowl is poured into the air, and the voice from the throne announces "It is done." John then describes the accompanying signs: lightning, rumblings, thunder and an earthquake unlike any since humanity began. These are the standard marks of a divine theophany, the appearance of God in judgment, echoing Sinai and the earlier trumpet and bowl scenes.
