Day 72: Joshua 10 - 13

Bible in a year reading for day 72.

Joshua 10

  1. 32 And the LORD delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel, and Joshua captured it on the second day. He put all the people to the sword, just as he had done to Libnah.
  2. 33 At that time Horam king of Gezer went to help Lachish, but Joshua struck him down along with his people, leaving no survivors.
  3. 34 So Joshua moved on from Lachish to Eglon, and all Israel with him. They laid siege to it and fought against it.
  4. 35 That day they captured Eglon and put it to the sword, and Joshua devoted to destruction everyone in the city, just as he had done to Lachish.
  5. 36 Then Joshua and all Israel with him went up from Eglon to Hebron and fought against it.
  6. 37 They captured it and put to the sword its king, all its villages, and all the people. Joshua left no survivors, just as he had done at Eglon; he devoted to destruction Hebron and everyone in it.
  7. 38 Finally Joshua and all Israel with him turned toward Debir and fought against it.
  8. 39 And they captured Debir, its king, and all its villages. They put them to the sword and devoted to destruction everyone in the city, leaving no survivors. Joshua did to Debir and its king as he had done to Hebron and as he had done to Libnah and its king.
  9. 40 So Joshua conquered the whole region—the hill country, the Negev, the foothills, and the slopes, together with all their kings—leaving no survivors. He devoted to destruction everything that breathed, just as the LORD, the God of Israel, had commanded.
  10. 41 Joshua conquered the area from Kadesh-barnea to Gaza, and the whole region of Goshen as far as Gibeon.
  11. 42 And because the LORD, the God of Israel, fought for Israel, Joshua captured all these kings and their land in one campaign.
  12. 43 Then Joshua returned with all Israel to the camp at Gilgal.

Joshua 11

  1. 1 Now when Jabin king of Hazor heard about these things, he sent word to Jobab king of Madon; to the kings of Shimron and Achshaph;
  2. 2 to the kings of the north in the mountains, in the Arabah south of Chinnereth, in the foothills, and in Naphoth-dor to the west;
  3. 3 to the Canaanites in the east and west; to the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, and Jebusites in the hill country; and to the Hivites at the foot of Hermon in the land of Mizpah.
  4. 4 So these kings came out with all their armies, a multitude as numerous as the sand on the seashore, along with a great number of horses and chariots.
  5. 5 All these kings joined forces and encamped at the waters of Merom to fight against Israel.
  6. 6 Then the LORD said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them, for by this time tomorrow I will deliver all of them slain before Israel. You are to hamstring their horses and burn up their chariots.”
  7. 7 So by the waters of Merom, Joshua and his whole army came upon them suddenly and attacked them,
  8. 8 and the LORD delivered them into the hand of Israel, who struck them down and pursued them all the way to Greater Sidon and Misrephoth-maim, and eastward as far as the Valley of Mizpeh. They struck them down, leaving no survivors.
  9. 9 Joshua treated them as the LORD had told him; he hamstrung their horses and burned up their chariots.
  10. 10 At that time Joshua turned back and captured Hazor and put its king to the sword, because Hazor was formerly the head of all these kingdoms.
  11. 11 The Israelites put everyone in Hazor to the sword, devoting them to destruction. Nothing that breathed remained, and Joshua burned down Hazor itself.
  12. 12 Joshua captured all these kings and their cities and put them to the sword. He devoted them to destruction, as Moses the LORD’s servant had commanded.
  13. 13 Yet Israel did not burn any of the cities built on their mounds, except Hazor, which Joshua burned.
  14. 14 The Israelites took for themselves all the plunder and livestock of these cities, but they put all the people to the sword until they had completely destroyed them, not sparing anyone who breathed.
  15. 15 As the LORD had commanded His servant Moses, so Moses commanded Joshua. That is what Joshua did, leaving nothing undone of all that the LORD had commanded Moses.
  16. 16 So Joshua took this entire region: the hill country, all the Negev, all the land of Goshen, the western foothills, the Arabah, and the mountains of Israel and their foothills,
  17. 17 from Mount Halak, which rises toward Seir, as far as Baal-gad in the Valley of Lebanon at the foot of Mount Hermon. He captured all their kings and struck them down, putting them to death.
  18. 18 Joshua waged war against all these kings for a long period of time.
  19. 19 No city made peace with the Israelites except the Hivites living in Gibeon; all others were taken in battle.
  20. 20 For it was of the LORD to harden their hearts to engage Israel in battle, so that they would be set apart for destruction and would receive no mercy, being annihilated as the LORD had commanded Moses.
  21. 21 At that time Joshua proceeded to eliminate the Anakim from the hill country of Hebron, Debir, and Anab, and from all the hill country of Judah and of Israel. Joshua devoted them to destruction, along with their cities.
  22. 22 No Anakim were left in the land of the Israelites; only in Gaza, Gath, and Ashdod did any survive.
  23. 23 So Joshua took the entire land, in keeping with all that the LORD had spoken to Moses. And Joshua gave it as an inheritance to Israel according to the allotments to their tribes. Then the land had rest from war.

Joshua 12

  1. 1 Now these are the kings of the land whom the Israelites struck down and whose lands they took beyond the Jordan to the east, from the Arnon Valley to Mount Hermon, including all the Arabah eastward:
  2. 2 Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon. He ruled from Aroer on the rim of the Arnon Valley, along the middle of the valley, up to the Jabbok River (the border of the Ammonites), that is, half of Gilead,
  3. 3 as well as the Arabah east of the Sea of Chinnereth to the Sea of the Arabah (the Salt Sea), eastward through Beth-jeshimoth, and southward below the slopes of Pisgah.
  4. 4 And Og king of Bashan, one of the remnant of the Rephaim, who lived in Ashtaroth and Edrei.
  5. 5 He ruled over Mount Hermon, Salecah, all of Bashan up to the border of the Geshurites and Maacathites, and half of Gilead to the border of Sihon king of Heshbon.
  6. 6 Moses, the servant of the LORD, and the Israelites had struck them down and given their land as an inheritance to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.
  7. 7 And these are the kings of the land that Joshua and the Israelites conquered beyond the Jordan to the west, from Baal-gad in the Valley of Lebanon to Mount Halak, which rises toward Seir (according to the allotments to the tribes of Israel, Joshua gave them as an inheritance
  8. 8 the hill country, the foothills, the Arabah, the slopes, the wilderness, and the Negev—the lands of the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites):
  9. 9 the king of Jericho, one; the king of Ai, which is near Bethel, one;
  10. 10 the king of Jerusalem, one; the king of Hebron, one;
  11. 11 the king of Jarmuth, one; the king of Lachish, one;
  12. 12 the king of Eglon, one; the king of Gezer, one;
  13. 13 the king of Debir, one; the king of Geder, one;
  14. 14 the king of Hormah, one; the king of Arad, one;
  15. 15 the king of Libnah, one; the king of Adullam, one;
  16. 16 the king of Makkedah, one; the king of Bethel, one;
  17. 17 the king of Tappuah, one; the king of Hepher, one;
  18. 18 the king of Aphek, one; the king of Lasharon, one;
  19. 19 the king of Madon, one; the king of Hazor, one;
  20. 20 the king of Shimron-meron, one; the king of Achshaph, one;
  21. 21 the king of Taanach, one; the king of Megiddo, one;
  22. 22 the king of Kedesh, one; the king of Jokneam in Carmel, one;
  23. 23 the king of Dor in Naphath-dor, one; the king of Goiim in Gilgal, one;
  24. 24 and the king of Tirzah, one. So there were thirty-one kings in all.

Joshua 13

  1. 1 Now Joshua was old and well along in years, and the LORD said to him, “You are old and well along in years, but very much of the land remains to be possessed.
  2. 2 This is the land that remains:
  3. 3 All the territory of the Philistines and the Geshurites, from the Shihor east of Egypt to the territory of Ekron on the north (considered to be Canaanite territory)—that of the five Philistine rulers of Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath, and Ekron, as well as that of the Avvites;
  4. 4 to the south, all the land of the Canaanites, from Mearah of the Sidonians to Aphek, as far as the border of the Amorites;
  5. 5 the land of the Gebalites; and all Lebanon to the east, from Baal-gad below Mount Hermon to Lebo-hamath.
  6. 6 All the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon to Misrephoth-maim—all the Sidonians—I Myself will drive out before the Israelites. Be sure to divide it by lot as an inheritance to Israel, as I have commanded you.
  7. 7 Now therefore divide this land as an inheritance to the nine tribes and the half-tribe of Manasseh.”
  8. 8 The other half of Manasseh, along with the Reubenites and Gadites, had received the inheritance Moses had given them beyond the Jordan to the east, just as Moses the servant of the LORD had assigned to them:
  9. 9 The area from Aroer on the rim of the Arnon Valley, along with the city in the middle of the valley, the whole plateau of Medeba as far as Dibon,
  10. 10 and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites who reigned in Heshbon, as far as the border of the Ammonites;
  11. 11 also Gilead and the territory of the Geshurites and Maacathites, all of Mount Hermon, and all Bashan as far as Salecah—
  12. 12 the whole kingdom of Og in Bashan, who had reigned in Ashtaroth and Edrei and had remained as a remnant of the Rephaim. Moses had struck them down and dispossessed them,
  13. 13 but the Israelites did not drive out the Geshurites or the Maacathites. So Geshur and Maacath dwell among the Israelites to this day.
  14. 14 To the tribe of Levi, however, Moses had given no inheritance. The offerings made by fire to the LORD, the God of Israel, are their inheritance, just as He had promised them.
  15. 15 This is what Moses had given to the clans of the tribe of Reuben:
  16. 16 The territory from Aroer on the rim of the Arnon Valley, along with the city in the middle of the valley, to the whole plateau beyond Medeba,
  17. 17 to Heshbon and all its cities on the plateau, including Dibon, Bamoth-baal, Beth-baal-meon,
  18. 18 Jahaz, Kedemoth, Mephaath,
  19. 19 Kiriathaim, Sibmah, Zereth-shahar on the hill in the valley,
  20. 20 Beth-peor, the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth-jeshimoth—
  21. 21 all the cities of the plateau and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon until Moses killed him and the chiefs of Midian (Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba), the princes of Sihon who lived in the land.
  22. 22 The Israelites also killed the diviner Balaam son of Beor along with the others they put to the sword.
  23. 23 And the border of the Reubenites was the bank of the Jordan. This was the inheritance of the clans of the Reubenites, including the cities and villages.
  24. 24 This is what Moses had given to the clans of the tribe of Gad:
  25. 25 The territory of Jazer, all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the Ammonites as far as Aroer, near Rabbah;
  26. 26 the territory from Heshbon to Ramath-mizpeh and Betonim, and from Mahanaim to the border of Debir;
