Day 314: John 14 - 17

Bible in a year reading for day 314.

John 14

  1. 9 Jesus replied, “Philip, I have been with you all this time, and still you do not know Me? Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
  2. 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words I say to you, I do not speak on My own. Instead, it is the Father dwelling in Me, performing His works.
  3. 11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me—or at least believe on account of the works themselves.
  4. 12 Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I am doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
  5. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
  6. 14 If you ask Me for anything in My name, I will do it.
  7. 15 If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
  8. 16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you forever—
  9. 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you do know Him, for He abides with you and will be in you.
  10. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
  11. 19 In a little while the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you also will live.
  12. 20 On that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you.
  13. 21 Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him.”
  14. 22 Judas (not Iscariot) asked Him, “Lord, why are You going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?”
  15. 23 Jesus replied, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
  16. 24 Whoever does not love Me does not keep My words. The word that you hear is not My own, but it is from the Father who sent Me.
  17. 25 All this I have spoken to you while I am still with you.
  18. 26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have told you.
  19. 27 Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.
  20. 28 You heard Me say, ‘I am going away, and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I.
  21. 29 And now I have told you before it happens, so that when it does happen, you will believe.
  22. 30 I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming, and he has no claim on Me.
  23. 31 But I do exactly what the Father has commanded Me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Get up! Let us go on from here.

John 15

  1. 1 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the keeper of the vineyard.
  2. 2 He cuts off every branch in Me that bears no fruit, and every branch that does bear fruit, He prunes to make it even more fruitful.
  3. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.
  4. 4 Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me.
  5. 5 I am the vine and you are the branches. The one who remains in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing.
  6. 6 If anyone does not remain in Me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers. Such branches are gathered up, thrown into the fire, and burned.
  7. 7 If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
  8. 8 This is to My Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, proving yourselves to be My disciples.
  9. 9 As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you. Remain in My love.
  10. 10 If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and remain in His love.
  11. 11 I have told you these things so that My joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.
  12. 12 This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
  13. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
  14. 14 You are My friends if you do what I command you.
  15. 15 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not understand what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because everything I have learned from My Father I have made known to you.
  16. 16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will remain—so that whatever you ask the Father in My name, He will give you.
  17. 17 This is My command to you: Love one another.
  18. 18 If the world hates you, understand that it hated Me first.
  19. 19 If you were of the world, it would love you as its own. Instead, the world hates you, because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world.
  20. 20 Remember the word that I spoke to you: ‘No servant is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will persecute you as well; if they kept My word, they will keep yours as well.
  21. 21 But they will treat you like this because of My name, since they do not know the One who sent Me.
  22. 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. Now, however, they have no excuse for their sin.
  23. 23 Whoever hates Me hates My Father as well.
  24. 24 If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have seen and hated both Me and My Father.
  25. 25 But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: ‘They hated Me without reason.’
  26. 26 When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father—He will testify about Me.
  27. 27 And you also must testify, because you have been with Me from the beginning.

John 16

  1. 1 “I have told you these things so that you will not fall away.
  2. 2 They will put you out of the synagogues. In fact, a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering a service to God.
  3. 3 They will do these things because they have not known the Father or Me.
  4. 4 But I have told you these things so that when their hour comes, you will remember that I told you about them. I did not tell you these things from the beginning, because I was with you.
  5. 5 Now, however, I am going to Him who sent Me; yet none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’
  6. 6 Instead, your hearts are filled with sorrow because I have told you these things.
  7. 7 But I tell you the truth, it is for your benefit that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.
  8. 8 And when He comes, He will convict the world in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment:
  9. 9 in regard to sin, because they do not believe in Me;
  10. 10 in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see Me;
  11. 11 and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world has been condemned.
  12. 12 I still have much to tell you, but you cannot yet bear to hear it.
  13. 13 However, when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak what He hears, and He will declare to you what is to come.
  14. 14 He will glorify Me by taking from what is Mine and disclosing it to you.
  15. 15 Everything that belongs to the Father is Mine. That is why I said that the Spirit will take from what is Mine and disclose it to you.
  16. 16 In a little while you will see Me no more, and then after a little while you will see Me.”
  17. 17 Then some of His disciples asked one another, “Why is He telling us, ‘In a little while you will not see Me, and then after a little while you will see Me’ and ‘Because I am going to the Father’?”
  18. 18 They kept asking, “Why is He saying, ‘a little while’? We do not understand what He is saying.”
  19. 19 Aware that they wanted to question Him, Jesus said to them, “Are you asking one another why I said, ‘In a little while you will not see Me, and then after a little while you will see Me’?
  20. 20 Truly, truly, I tell you, you will weep and wail while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.
  21. 21 A woman has pain in childbirth because her time has come; but when she brings forth her child, she forgets her anguish because of her joy that a child has been born into the world.
  22. 22 So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.
  23. 23 In that day you will no longer ask Me anything. Truly, truly, I tell you, whatever you ask the Father in My name, He will give you.
  24. 24 Until now you have not asked for anything in My name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.
  25. 25 I have spoken these things to you in figures of speech. An hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you this way, but will tell you plainly about the Father.
  26. 26 In that day you will ask in My name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf.
  27. 27 For the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and have believed that I came from God.
  28. 28 I came from the Father and entered the world. In turn, I will leave the world and go to the Father.”
  29. 29 His disciples said, “See, now You are speaking plainly and without figures of speech.
  30. 30 Now we understand that You know all things and that You have no need for anyone to question You. Because of this, we believe that You came from God.”
  31. 31 “Do you finally believe?” Jesus replied.
  32. 32 “Look, an hour is coming and has already come when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and you will leave Me all alone. Yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.
  33. 33 I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take courage; I have overcome the world!”

John 17

  1. 1 When Jesus had spoken these things, He lifted up His eyes to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son may glorify You.
  2. 2 For You granted Him authority over all people, so that He may give eternal life to all those You have given Him.
